History of the Veranda Hotel

100 W. Lincoln St. The original hotel was where Civil War troops quartered overnight. After the Civil War, the building was made into a 2-story pharmacy and soda shop with a beautiful interior open mezzanine. The pharmacy operated at this site for many years. In the early 1970’s, the interior of the building burned. In the late 1970’s the building was remodeled and transformed back into a 23-room hotel that is now known as the Veranda. In 1997, the hotel was purchased by the current owners, Don and Jackie Crownover, owners of Southern Properties of Distinction and longtime residents of the area.

Since 1997, the hotel has maintained its charm and has been updated with new carpeting, nostalgic décor, electronic key systems, and high-speed internet. There are now 4, two-room suites with king size beds and 19 large rooms with queen size or double bed. All rooms have full private baths, cable TV’s, sitting areas and kitchenettes. The kitchenettes now include refrigerators, ranges with ovens, kitchen sinks, microwaves, and coffee makers (with coffee provided).
